Default CAT 2009- Help Desk!- Shoot Your Queries!

    Hi CAT Aspirants!

The official notification for CAT 2009 will be out on 30th and from there on will start the process, of getting the forms, filling them, eligibility, and all other kind of issues.

In these thread, we intend to help you and make it easier for this whole process. Remember, it is very important to make sure, you make no mistake. Every year, around 10k students have their form rejected, for not being careful while filling their forms, some of them face the music later, when after having qualified for admission, they have to forfeit their claim for admission for some incorrect or incomplete information.

A single mistake can ruin one year for you.

We will make sure that doesn't happen.
Just make sure, you shoot your queries.

    Good Luck!
    Implex!

    Some rules:

    1. Try to make your query clear and include as much information as possible.

    2. Read previous posts, your query may be similar to one, which has been already answered.

    3. Restrict your query to eligibilty, form filling, etc only. For tips on how to prepare, use other relevant threads.

    4. Avoid spamming this thread. If you feel your query has been answered, you may use the thanks button. No need to quote and say thanks as a separate post, unless you have to have add something new.

5 In case, your query, is not answered due to some unavoidable reasons, don't panic and post again and again. The number of times the same query is posted does not necessarily mean it will get answered

I will add rules, if needed, in future.

Breaking the rules, will not lead to any punishment, but will make it much more difficult for students only.

    Good Luck!

Like we know there will be 2 session per center per day for CAT

1st session from 10 AM and end at 12:30 PM. (reporting time 8 AM)
2nd session from 3:30 PM and end at 6 PM. (reporting time 1:30 PM)

We will have to take our CAT 2009 Admit Card, voucher, a valid document as proof of SC/ST eligibility (if applicable) and one photo-identification to the test centre.

Details from Indian Institues of Management

    More details about CAT 2009

The duration of the test is 2 hours and 30 minutes including initial 15 minute tutorial.
So we get a hang of the player before it starts (good thinking by IIM)

There will be a total of three sections in the test. There will be about 60 to 70 questions in the test. (first time IIM has said no of question before hand, can we believe this?? 60 - 70 don't you think this small no means the questions are going to be difficult??)

At the test venue, each candidate will be seated at a desk with a computer terminal and will be provided with rough paper for calculations. After the test, candidate must leave the rough paper at the desk. Rough work cannot be done on any other paper/sheet, as nothing will be allowed inside the testing room. (what about pen/pencil? and how many rough sheets will we get??)

Does this means that CAT duration will be 2:15 minutes as 15 minutes will be there for the tutorial???????????????

Yeah that is what it means from the word "including".

Also, 60-70 questions is not that big a difference, as the time tkaen on screen will be more per question.

    Hi TF,
Does the figure really tell us that the questions will be tough this time with a little or no sitters ??

    Regards,
    Sailendrak

    Does
There are certain things to know.
    1. They have specified a range.
    2. Further the timing of the test has also gone down by 15 mins, which will be taken by the tutorial.
    3. Also, with more time per question, on computer, number of questions had to come down.
    4. You will be able to see one question at a time, and click next every time, hence, you will have to read all the questions before u decide which one to attempt or not.

    Hey all

Regarding the time for tutorial, I assume everyone would have gone through the tutorial once. But the problem is, there is nowhere mentioned that one has to wait till the time tutorial gets over and then proceed. It may happen like that the tutorial time is not separately monitored and it is included within the timer for the paper so that those who have gone through the tutorial can skip it and start attempting the paper as early as possible. If anyone knows any details about this, please share with us.

    Thank you!

wat abt the cgpa conversion letter....
my institution doesn't provide any conversion format.

So should we take the cgpa conversion letter if the institution is providing one, but not req if the institution is not following any conversion format.

if you do not get a cgpa letter, i advice u should get one, if possible. The IIMs multiply your cgpa/max cgpa and convert into 100%.

So nothing to worry on that front..
the basic thing is if ur insti considers u worth graduating, u r good to go in IIMs

If any one has specific reason for specific date..pl do reply....
There are few things I would like to add:
    1. First day will be a bit tricky, but I would prefer that as you have complete freshness.
You don't know if paper is tough or easy or something like that.

    2. I would advice though, to go for the 3rd or 4th day, by then, things will have settled down.

    3. Last few days will be very confusing, there will be so much feedback, that you will get bogged down by pressure to perform well.

Its better to open the innings
